Business insurance customers in hi-tech industries have received almost £3 million in support from the Scottish Executive, it has been reported.
Some 28 business insurance holders have received funding from the Smart:Scotland scheme, which is part of the government's drive to support enterprising companies in the current economic climate.
Jim Mather, Scottish enterprise minister, claimed that helping hi-tech business insurance customers will make the country a more attractive place for others to locate in.
He added: "This funding demonstrates the Scottish government's commitment to help enterprising firms weather the challenging conditions they currently face and position the Scottish economy for a strong recovery."
The Scottish Executive also highlighted the case of Aberdeen-based Cytosystems, which received a £68,217 grant from the Smart:Scotland scheme to develop a new cancer screening system.
Last month, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts suggested the government focuses on supporting companies in next-generation sectors in the economic downturn.
