The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is calling on the government to make it easier for small business insurance customers to take on apprentices.
According to the organisation, the government needs to introduce higher wages for apprentices, direct funds at small business insurance holders to employ them and set up a scheme which links apprentices to firms and job offers.
The FSB also recommends financial incentives for companies to take people on these projects on and to reduce the administrative burden companies face when hiring them.
John Wright, national chairman of the group, said a lack of funds coupled with lots of paperwork is putting many small business insurance holders off employing apprentices and steps must be taken to address this.
"The government must make it easier for the smallest firms to create apprenticeships and should put in place a Group Apprenticeship Programme to bring employers and apprentices together," he stated.
In other news, the FSB recently recommended that internships with small business insurance holders could help reduce the problem of rising graduate unemployment.
