Lord Peter Mandelson has highlighted the commitment of the government to helping the UK's business insurance holders.
In a speech at the Small Business Forum, the business secretary noted the success of the government's Real Help initiative and revealed that new ways to help firms are being explored.
Through the Real Help programme, the Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme is assessed or has approved over 2,500 eligible loans with a total value of nearly £290 million.
Furthermore, the £10 billion Working Capital Scheme has issued the first £1 billion in lending guarantees to banks, while up to £5 billion of additional trade credit insurance was pledged in the Budget to business insurance holders that have a lack of cover.
Lord Mandelson explained: "These measures continue to show that government is providing real and targeted support to those businesses which need it most.
"Businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and I am determined that we do everything we can to support them through the economic downturn."
This week's Budget also revealed that business insurance customers who are struggling to pay their corporation and income tax could be granted an extension on the time to settle.
