Less than a third of people drink in their local pubs, preferring to travel further to find a good meal with their pint, according to new survey findings.
Around 44 per cent of people are willing to travel more than ten miles to find the perfect pub grub and ten per cent will drive for more than 20 miles.
However, the reward at the end of the journey must be high quality, reasonably priced meals in a pleasant location.
Young people in the 18 to 30 age group are most fond of lunching in the pub, but five per cent of them admitted that they would drink more than the legal limit of alcohol before driving home.
James Gore, an insurance company spokesman said: "With so many great gastro pubs out there serving great food at reasonable prices, we are seeing the return of the weekend drive, as more and more people travel further afield to try out new places."
"We advise food-loving motorists that, if you do like a drink with your lunch, stick to a pub within walking distance, or be prepared to take a taxi home," he warned.
With clients so dedicated to finding the perfect lunchtime bite, targeting the market on your doorstep could be a winning tactic.
