Professionals in human resources (HR) will be a key part of the future of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), one expert has told business and recruitment magazine Personnel Today.
Richard Lambert, director general of the Confederation of British Industry, has stressed the importance of HR professionals and states that in ten years' time companies will be judged on their human capital.
Speaking to the magazine, Mr Lambert said: "Ten years ago companies succeeded or failed on the way they used their physical infrastructure - their factories, logistics systems and supply chains."
"Now and increasingly so it is down to the ability to identify, attract, train and retain the best talent."
He added that the importance of good quality HR staff was increasing and that companies would do well to keep this in mind for the future.
Earlier this week Mr Lambert welcomed proposals by the Conservative party that would introduce measures to encourage competitiveness in business.
The plans included the reduction of tax on SMEs as well as cutting the red tape associated with EU legislation.
