Diversity in the workplace is an important consideration for all business insurance holders, it has been suggested.

The Tapping into Talent: The Age Factor and Generational Issues report, published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), claimed that some differences between staff should be born in mind by business insurance customers.

According to the group, companies should be more inclusive with initiatives such as flexible working, which could be an alternative to retirement for older employees, who tend to disregard it.

In addition, the CIPD said that business insurance holders should strive to communicate with all staff, suggesting that older workers are often less adaptable to emerging IT breakthroughs.

Firms should also attempt to demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, as this boosts their chances of attracting and retaining talented workers, especially those from younger generations.

Dianah Worman, adviser on diversity at the CIPD, commented: "The more you inspect the diversity agenda, the more it is apparent that focusing on people as individuals and delivering fairness for everyone is vitally important to become an employer of choice."

Previous research from the CIPD suggested that firms are concentrating on retaining and developing their workers instead of seeking new talent.
