Graduates can access funding from a variety of sources when trying to launch their own small firm, according to one expert.

Lorna Collins, director of the Flying Start Programme, explained that there are a variety of grants and funds available to university leavers looking to set up an SME.

She said: "There isn't a specific graduate set-up pot of money that is national, but there are many other grants and funds set up and loans available."

However, the funds are "often very targeted" and whether or not firms will be able to access the cash depends on how much they want to borrow and the kind of business they engage in, she added.

The Flying Start Programme is operated by the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE).

Founded in 2004, the NGCE is tasked with increasing the profile of entrepreneurship and the option of starting a business as a career choice for graduates.ADNFCR-873-ID-18704671-ADNFCR
