The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has today called on the government to help small businesses that have become the victims of flooding in England and Wales.

In addition, the FSB highlighted the need for insurance companies to act swiftly to ensure that the affected businesses can get sorted out and ready for work once again as quickly as possible.

"The Environment Agency, and if necessary central government, must play its part in assisting the victims of the flooding and we call on them not to forget the small business community when they do so," said FSB national chairman John Wright.

Mr Wright continued by saying that "the future of local communities" as well as jobs and livelihoods are all at risk from the affects of flooding, which have been the product of the wettest June on record.

Flash floods in Yorkshire have already claimed the lives of three people in the last couple of days, according to reports.
