Insurance companies are gearing up for one of the UK's biggest ever claims exercises, according to one company.
Zurich Financial Services have estimated 5,000 businesses could be affected by the flooding making it the largest potential claims handling exercise since the Kyrill storms struck Europe in February.
Forecasters have predicted more stormy weather and insurers are said to be putting plans into place to more efficiently deal with the influx of business claims relating to the floods, while still maintaining a regular service for other customers.
Zurich's UK property claims operations manager, Jon Cawley, said: "This flooding is taking longer to clear than previous flooding, for example in Boscastle three years ago."
"We've set up claims command centres to help coordinate the restoration effort and provide immediate help in the community for those affected by the floods," he added.
According to AFX news German insurance association GDV said yesterday that damages to insured property by Kyrill had amounted to more than 3 billion (£2 billion), compared to earlier estimates of 2 billion (£1.4 billion).
