It has been one of the wettest Junes on record and, with flood warnings being issued up and down the country, it seems that the freak weather conditions have harmed many small businesses.

Pubs across Sheffield, Lincolnshire, Shropshire and Nottinghamshire have been battered by the rain, and hundreds of people have fled villages near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, amid fears the nearby Ulley dam could collapse, the Publican reports.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has called on the government to assist SMEs that have been severely affected by the floods to get back on their feet as soon as possible.

John Wright, FSB national chairman, said: "The wettest June on record is set to have a devastating impact on small businesses in many areas of England and Wales and the extent of the damage may not become clear for some time.

"Jobs, livelihoods and the future of local communities are at risk."
