Flexible working can help people to manage their days more effectively, according to one expert.

Ann McCracken, vice chair of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), said that flexible working can be a "very positive" arrangement, particularly as some people work more efficiently at different times of the day.

"There's a big advantage to having a job where you're working at your peak time," she remarked.

Additionally, people can help to reduce their workplace stress levels by ensuring that they discuss their concerns, such as the demands made of them and the support their receive. with their managers, Ms McCracken.

The Health and Safety Executive reports that 420,000 people in the UK thought that the work-related stress they experienced had made them ill in 2006-07.

According to the agency, stress, depression and anxiety account for approximately 13.8 million working days lost each year in Britain.
