Women who look to set up small and medium-sized enterprises are heavily motivated by working from home according to one expert.
A spokeswoman for everywoman, a resources and support provider for female entrepreneurs, said that flexibility and remaining involved in family life was a key factor in many women's decisions to set up a home-based business.
Karen Gill, co-founder of everywoman, said: "Working from home is an enormous motivator for women with children, who still do the 'lion share' of home and family care,"
She added that the flexibility provided by a home business start-up allows women to work in their own time from locations that suit their needs.
Recent research involving a number of Fortune 500 companies revealed that companies that had more women involved in their management and leadership achieved better financial results.
It was also estimated that over half of all women starting their own business said that flexible working was a key incentive.
