Business insurance holders need to do more to protect sensitive information they hold on their customers, a poll has found.
Research published by the National Fraud Authority as part of National Identity Fraud Prevention Week revealed that one-third of business insurance holders have failed to implement a comprehensive data protection policy.
In addition, 97 per cent of employees think their organisation is not fully protecting all their customers' data, while 71 per cent believe more could be done to safeguard consumers from identity fraud.
National Identity Fraud Prevention Week spokesman Tyron Hill said: "Businesses need to do more to inform their employees and reassure their customers that they are handling data responsibly."
Mr Hill also claimed that business insurance holders which show they are working to protect their customers' information could build a competitive advantage over those that fail to do so.
Earlier this month, Luis Corrons, technical director at Panda Security, said that small firms cannot rely on free software to provide all the IT security they need to defend against malware and protect data.
