Business insurance holders need to introduce fairer employment practices, an expert has claimed.

A recent report by the Department for Work and Pensions claimed that there is still evidence of discrimination in some companies' recruitment processes, which may concern firms with business insurance.

Commenting on the findings, Brendan Barber, general secretary at Trades Union Congress (TUC), said the report is "shocking" in showing that discrimination is still present in the modern world.

"Employers in the private sector have got to get better at recruiting staff and start selecting people for interview based on ability, experience, and their suitability for the job," he continued.

In addition, Mr Barber said that the UK public sector has been able to achieve fair employment practices and called on the private sector do the same, which may interest business insurance holders.

Last week, author Richard Wilkinson told a TUC conference that inequality is a major problem facing the UK economy and said that changes need to be made to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
