Many small and medium-sized businesses feel that UK electricity suppliers are not providing a satisfactory service.

A survey conducted by market research company Accent asked 2,400 smaller companies what kind of service they were receiving and many said they were dissatisfied.

According to the Morning Advertiser the study revealed that none of the six largest suppliers received a "satisfied" rating and the majority of the complaints related to inaccurate billing and infrequent meter reading

Paul Savage, business services manager for Energywatch, who commissioned the study said that the figures confirmed that energy suppliers were failing to provide satisfactory levels of service to small businesses in basic areas.

"We want to see a marketplace where good service is rewarded, poor service is shunned and where small businesses are able to influence the market by making informed choices," he said.

Other reasons mentioned as areas of dissatisfaction were a slow response to complaints and staff inexperience.

Also this week, a YouGov poll found that 42 per cent of people had received inaccurate energy bills resulting in them incorrectly owing money to their supplier.
