Using email to settle disputes in the workplace is "like using a hammer to drive in a screw", according to one expert.

In news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, Bronia Szczygiel, a senior partner at training firm Impact Factory, explains that the fact that people cannot pick up visual and tonal clues from the written word means attempting to solve issues in this way can create problems.

Using email to reach a settle "will do the job but it's likely to be messy and might hurt", she said.

People also become more formal in written communication than they do when meeting face-to-face, Ms Szczygiel added.

In other news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, a recent study conducted by the Lehigh, Rutgers and DePaul universities found that people are more likely to lie in email communications than they are in other forms of contact.ADNFCR-873-ID-18819468-ADNFCR
