Hotel insurance owners may see an increase in visitors due to the rising numbers looking at domestic tourism, an expert asserts.
Amir Girgis, an economist at the World Travel and Tourism Council, claims the economic downturn is leading people to be more price conscious and to travel closer to home.
He says the big difference between the current economic crisis and previous recessions is the fact that people still intend to holiday, which could interest hotel insurance owners.
Mr Girgis also states that there is a strong demand for UK trips from abroad due to the weakened exchange rate.
He comments: "What you have is an increase in domestic travel, so trips from London to Oxford will become popular. You see more promotions for domestic travel here."
Iain Herbert, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Forum, recently told the Scotsman that hotel insurance holders will be concentrating on adding value to their services as a way of attracting custom during the downturn.
