Business insurance customers could benefit from proposals being put forward by the Czech Republic to reduce the red-tape burden on small and medium firms.

The country has just taken over the presidency of the European Union and is now looking to push through plans to ease regulation, according to the Daily Mail.

Under the proposals, small and medium-sized firms would be allowed to file a single set of reports and accounts, rather than passing information to various government agencies.

Under the proposals, small business insurance customers would also be able to do deals with other enterprises within the eurozone without having to register subsidiaries in the countries concerned.

"We want to make life easier for small firms. We see them as the cornerstone of economic activity," a Czech government source told the newspaper.

It is thought that the European Commission has already been persuaded that obsolete regulations on business insurance customers should be torn up.

This week, the Federation of Small Businesses has called for the UK government to ease the burden of regulation on small and medium-sized firms.
