Companies will always be at risk of cybercrime, an expert has told business insurance holders.

In comments which may show the need for business insurance, Spencer Kelly, presenter of Click, told the Gartner Information Security Summit that cybercriminals have become more organised in recent years due to the financial gains they can make.

"We're never going to wipe out cyber crime, just like we're never going to wipe out crime in the real world," he explained.

Mr Kelly also claimed that more could be done to protect business insurance holders against electronic crime if more was done to encourage international cooperation between governments on the issue.

In addition, the expert recommended that individual IT users should have more education on security, in order to increase their knowledge of how to protect themselves.

Recently, research from Gartner suggested that the worldwide security software market will grow by eight per cent over 2009 to reach total revenues of $14.5 billion (£8.9 billion).
