A restaurant owner in Coventry has been found guilty of three food hygiene offences and fined £3,500 per offence, it has emerged.

The premises of Tariq Abdullah Dosky in Hillfields were visited while he was away when the council's environmental health department found rotting cucumber and discarded chicken bone on the floor.

The fact that the restaurant had no back door and a build-up of grease on the walls accounted for the other two offences, but Mr Dosky pleaded not guilty to all three and asked for the case to be heard at Coventry Crown Court rather than by city magistrates, reports the Coventry Observer.

The jury found Mr Dosky guilty on all three charges.

In his summary, Judge Hooper QC said: "Due to the overwhelming evidence of serious food hygiene offences provided by the prosecution, and the enormous amount of public money spent by electing for the case to be heard at crown court as opposed to magistrates, substantial fines will be imposed."

On top of the fines for the offences, Mr Dosky was ordered to pay an additional £3,500 in costs.
