Businesses can benefit from the Climate Change Bill by cutting carbon as well as costs, it has been suggested.

John Buckley, the managing director of environmental advice company Carbon Footprint, praised the bill and singled out IT as one area ripe for eco-friendly change.

"Businesses are becoming more aware, especially as the price of fuels and electricity continues to rise," he noted.

Mr Buckley continued: "Businesses are looking to make reductions in their energy usage, not just to reduce their carbon emissions but to save money.

"The Climate Change Bill will put more pressure on industry and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions, and this has to beneficial."

Regarding IT, the environmental expert pointed out that as well as cutting the energy used by equipment, carbon emissions can be saved by reducing offsite meetings and enabling people to work from home.

At the Prince of Wales's May Day Business Summit in Edinburgh this month, businesses across the country were urged by Prince Charles to go green and save cash by doing so.
