Over 500,000 people will be clocking in on Christmas day rather than spending time with their families, it has been suggested.
One in ten businessmen and women are likely to miss the festivities due to work commitments, according to new research by Clydesdale Bank.
The study into people's work-life balance also found regional differences, with nearly a quarter of those in the East Midlands likely to have missed Christmas day compared to only three per cent of Yorkshire men and women.
Mike Williams, Clydesdale Bank's business banking general manager, indicated that many people would expect Christmas Day to be the one day people put work aside but the findings seemed to contravene this perception.
"It's astounding that so many business people still appear to miss what is traditionally one of the most important family holidays of the year," he added.
SalesJobs.ie has found that 92 per cent of Irish employees check their work emails outside of office hours, reports Online Recruitment.
