London hotel insurance owners may be interested to know that the difference in quality between lower-ranking premises and mid to high-range establishments is vast, an expert asserts.
Dee Doocey, Liberal Democrat member of the London Assembly and chair of the economic development, culture, sport and tourism committee, claims a number of the cheaper locations are "absolutely dire".
He calls for action to be taken on hotel insurance owners at the bottom of the scale, suggesting their accommodation is a "disgrace" which is negatively affecting the number of visitors to the capital.
Mr Doocey states: "Much more needs to be done and the mayor should be instructing VisitLondon to actually take this on board and do something about it."
He suggests that visitors are likely to economise on accommodation while staying at the city so they can spend on activities, choosing hotel insurance owners that provide a lower level of quality.
Recent figures published by PricewaterhouseCooper's UK Hotels Forecast shows there will be an economic contraction of 3.3 per cent in the UK during 2009.
