The downturn is placing pressure on all levels of the food and drink industry, including celebrity-run establishments, restaurant insurance owners may be interested to discover.

A number of these companies have reported a fall in sales during the week, the Financial Times reports.

The source identifies a number of recent closures, including four sites belonging to Anthony Worral Thompson and Raymond Blanc's Brasserie Blanc, as well as the rumours surrounding the financial health of Gordon Ramsay's empire.

Even when busy, restaurant insurance holders are reporting a fall in the profit generated by wine and after-dinner drinks.

Simon Blagden, managing director of Jamie Oliver's mid-priced eatery Jamie's Italian, tells the news provider that five more of its premises will be opening this year.

He states: "People are trading down … while there have been lay-offs in Canary Wharf, for those who are still there, they will be looking for competitively-priced offerings like ours."

In other restaurant insurance holder news, Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck closed temporarily last week after a number of incidents of food poisoning.ADNFCR-873-ID-19053042-ADNFCR
