The amount of red-tape facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is too high, research has claimed, according to a source.
Statistics released by Pegasus Software show 92 per cent feel they have to deal with too much government red-tape, while 40 per cent say targets set to cut the amount of regulations are not enough, reports Smeweb.com.
Of the 450 businesses questioned, 25 per cent claim to have spent more than two months researching and complying with legislation, the website states.
Kevin McCallum, Pegasus' commercial director, told the source: "It is encouraging that the government is taking steps towards reducing the regulatory burden on SMEs, but these findings highlight that there is still a long way to go."
Over 90 per cent of participants feel the situation has become worse in the last 12 months, with 92 per cent believing it will deteriorate further in the next year.
Meanwhile, research by energy group E.ON recently claims SMEs are more likely to be green when it comes to recycling and reducing emissions than larger companies, reports Business Green.
