Bristol City Council has told restaurants that they "must comply with new food safety laws," it has emerged.
In a bid to meet the new standards, the council's food safety team has worked with the Bangladesh Association to encourage Asian restaurant workers to attend free seminars on the new food safety laws.
Over 40 restaurant chefs and managers gathered at a recent seminar where they were presented with a copy of the new Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) pack, which is specifically aimed at helping small catering businesses to comply with the new laws.
Councillor Hopkins told 24dash.com: "The city council recognises the difficulties that small businesses have when new regulations come into force and so we have worked hard to get additional funding from the Food Standards Agency to enable us to offer free practical training and advice to help traders protect their customers, and improve their reputation and their business."
The council's actions reflect a nationwide effort to improve food safety in bars and restaurants in order to meet the new laws.
Earlier this week it was reported that over 230 establishments in Ilkeston will be given food standard ratings as part of the new Scores on the Doors scheme to promote hygiene in catering.
