A new guide has been launched to help retail insurance holders promote food hygiene.
The document, published by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), offers practical guidance on how firms can comply with food hygiene legislation.
Andrew Opie, director of food policy at the BRC, revealed that the Food Industry Guide to Good Hygiene Practice: Retail Guide has been prepared with input from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which may interest those with retail insurance.
"It provides businesses - both large and small - with useful explanations and practical guidance on how to meet food safety requirements and to show enforcement officers that regulations are being complied with," he added.
Sarah Appleby, head of enforcement at the FSA, also pointed out that good food hygiene should be a core concern of any well-run business and said the guide will help firms to embed this into their day-to-day activities.
Earlier this month, the BRC said that retailers are committed to reducing the amount of waste which is associated with their products.
