A private member's bill aimed putting a minimum price on the cost of alcohol is to be launched at 10 Downing Street.

In news which might be of interest to pub insurance customers, Labour MP Sally Keeble, who is introducing the bill, claims it is aimed at curbing discounting at off-licenses and supermarkets, reports the Morning Advertised.

Speaking to the publication she said: "These measures would not put up the price of having a pint in the pub. They are designed to tackle the buying and drinking of large amounts of alcohol from shops."

If made law the proposals would also stop happy hours where people pay a set fee to drink as much as they want, she added.

However, the bill is unlikely to be passed due to time pressures in the House of Commons.

In other news which might be of interest to pub insurance customers, the Federation of Small Businesses recently called on so-called pubco agreements to be scrapped to allow landlords to compete on an even footing.ADNFCR-873-ID-18808561-ADNFCR
