New regulations on recycling accumulators and waste batteries have been put before parliament, retailers with business insurance may be interested to discover.
A legislative framework for the collection, treatment and recycling of the devices will be implemented by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
Ian Pearson, economic and business minister, says the new rules will ensure that the impact of batteries and accumulators on the environment will be minimised, which could affect retailers with business insurance.
He states: "We are committed to helping minimise the impact on the environment of this kind of waste and this is the latest measure to help us achieve a cleaner environment."
The new rules will require retailers with business insurance to be registered as a producer of batteries, with the responsibility of reporting on the waste items they collect and send for recycling.
