A report calling for action on rising gas and electricity prices has been welcomed by one interest group.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) believes that the Business and Enterprise Select Committee report is right to demand steps are taken to address the situation.

John Holbrow, FSB environment and energy chairman, said: "Small business owners are very similar to small domestic consumers in terms of energy consumption patterns and expertise but often fall foul of complex bill formats, infrequent meter readings, incorrect billing, poor customer service and lack of information on switching suppliers."

The closure of Energywatch will only make matters worse for SMEs, he added.

Earlier this month, Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at npower, urged firms to take steps aimed at cutting their energy bills.

He explained that even small measures such as replacing light bulbs with low-power ones could make a significant difference to bills in a short space of time.ADNFCR-873-ID-18706405-ADNFCR
