Shop insurance customers had a profitable July, if a new set of figures are anything to by.
Data published by the Office for National Statistics shows that the volume of retail sales over the course of the month was some 1.3 per cent higher than the same period in 2009.
However, even greater increases were seen in terms of the value of sales. Last month saw a 2.8 per cent rise from 12 months ago.
And it appears businesses - which may include those with shop insurance - that predominately sell food had a good month. Their sales rose by 0.8 per cent.
Stores which predominantly sell non-food items recorded 3.7 per cent growth in monthly sales values, with such increases driven by non-specialised shops.
Clothing, footwear and textile stores saw sales rise by 3.1 per cent.
Shop insurance customers may be seeing a particular increase in the number of people choosing to pay by card. A recent study by Barclaycard showed the amount of money spent via debit and credit cards last month was some 9.9 per cent above the same period of time in 2009.
