More needs to be done to protect companies from criminal activity carried out by their employees - something which could result in them being forced to make a claim on their business insurance - it has been suggested.
Steve Huxham, chair of the Recruitment Society, claims that while both firms and employees are under more strain in the current economic climate, it is important that such pressure does not lead them "to do things that they shouldn't".
He goes on to state that in the event of employees committing criminal acts, it is important that businesses are able to show the measures they have taken to minimise risks.
And now could be the ideal opportunity to take out a greater level of business insurance.
"It is definitely a time to be more cautious, more covered, more secure and having proper procedures in place than ever before," he states.
His comments follow research published by the RSA Group last year that showed nine out of ten firms do not protect against employee theft, something that could leave many companies out of pocket should they need to make a claim on their business insurance policy.
