Pubs, restaurants and other venues staging firework displays and other events need to secure commercial insurance, as one incident has highlighted.

According to the BBC, around 20 people were injured at an organised firework display in Leighton Buzzard at the weekend.

One of the fireworks misfired, hitting people in the crowd and causing burns an cuts to adults and children.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said most of the injuries were superficial burns and that those injured were lucky.

"It could have been much worse," he acknowledged.

Local police said the Health and Safety Executive has been informed about the incident, which took place at the scout hut on Grovebury Road.

Any businesses organising firework displays or large-scale events on their premises need to make sure they are fully covered against possible accidents.

Commercial insurance which includes public liability cover and commercial legal protection could provide peace of mind.
