Companies may wish to review their business insurance policies to make sure they are covered for computer breakdown and loss of data after hearing that cyber criminals are changing their targets to boost their success rates.

In a new report, security firm Trustwave warned that hackers and malware creators are moving away from traditional infrastructure and are increasingly targeting mobile devices to access sensitive information.

The research showed that geolocation data is aiding cybercriminals by enabling them to launch more sophisticated ad targeted attacks, while the mobile devices themselves provide an open door into corporate authentication credentials.

Trustwave found that the food and beverage industry suffers the most attacks and data breaches, representing 57 per cent of investigations into cyber crime.

Robert McCullen, chairman and chief executive of the company, said businesses must take steps to protect themselves from increasingly sophisticated attacks.

"Organisations that approach their initiatives firmly committed to including security as an integrated requirement, and not just as a checkbox, will be most resilient to attack, reduce their risk to compromise, and be able to best protect both sensitive data and reputation," he remarked.
