As one organisation raises concern over plans to give firms a greater say in local decision making matters, retailers may want to consider how such changes could impact on shop insurance.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) notes that while businesses are keen to have a larger role in regional decision making as part of the government's Local Enterprise Partnerships scheme, it suggests those retailers that operate nationwide could face difficulty in dealing with a number of different regulatory regimes.
In addition, the BRC claims national retailers could be presented with additional costs, something that could affect their ability to meet shop insurance and other expenses.
Stephen Robertson, director general of the BRC, states: "We support the idea of greater local involvement in decision making. But the benefits of local decision making must be balanced against the extra costs and uncertainty that could be imposed on national businesses."
Retailers may also want to consider their shop insurance needs following previous BRC comments that while business secretary Vince Cable's pledge to introduce better regulation is positive, it is crucial that the government deliver this in practice.
