With today's (September 7th) London Underground strike causing transport problems for workers and businesses across the capital, firms may want to consider how commercial insurance can offer them protection in future cases of industrial action.

Commenting on the first of a planned series of 24-hour strikes led by members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers and the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association, deputy director-general of the Confederation of British Industry John Cridland claims the protest "will disrupt London at work".

"It will cause misery and disruption to the general public and to employers," he adds, something which could lead to a rise in businesses making claims on their commercial insurance cover.

Mr Cridland goes on to claim that strikes are "often decided by a small proportion of the workforce", with less than one-fifth of London Underground employees supporting the latest industrial walkout.

By having commercial insurance in place, businesses can be protected against financial loss incurred by strikes, theft or natural disasters such as fire or floods.ADNFCR-873-ID-800054767-ADNFCR
