Remote workers - who may need a certain type of business insurance - are to be recognised at a national awards ceremony.

BT Business has been on the hunt for remote workers from all over the UK and shortlisted a selection who could be in with a chance to win one of its Microsoft Remote Worker Awards.

One of those workers is Anglia Ruskin University lecturer Shirley Pickford, who runs an online work-based course, Cambridge Network reports.

Commenting on the benefits of home-based employment, she said: "Nobody knows your age online, people often assume that remote workers are young - but we are mostly mature (in age), having held senior positions before."

According to the Remote Worker Awards website, some of the benefits of working online from home include improved balance between work and life, and increased business productivity.

But one area remote workers should be sure not to neglect is the possible need for business insurance depending, on the type of employment they undertake, reports Business Link.

Specialist business insurance can cover loss of office equipment and public liability, unlike normal household policies. ADNFCR-873-ID-800042574-ADNFCR
