Business insurance holders should use social networking sites to their full advantage, according to one expert.

Editor of Social Media Portal Tim Gibbon suggested that if business insurance holders and others allow employees to use sites like Facebook and Twitter, it will increase productivity.

He remarked: "With the right guidance and good employer-employee relations from the outset, there shouldn't be room for massive upheavals in work balance."

Mr Gibbon added all firms – including those with business insurance - should have a social media policy, which could be an extension of media relations.

He added that this gives them workforce boundaries so they can manage expectations and their workload.

The specialist noted that social networking sites play a big part in people's lives and restricting usage could prove damaging for some companies.

A report by Clearswift revealed that 21 per cent of those quizzed explained they would turn down a job if they were not allowed to use such applications.
