Business insurance holders are losing out on millions of pounds due to a lack of sleep among the UK workforce, according to a report.

Travelodge conducted a survey that revealed firms – which may include those with business insurance – have to count the cost of the eight million sick days taken by staff every year.

And of those quizzed, more than half noted they feel as though they have a hangover when they have not had enough shut-eye.

Business insurance holders may be interested to hear that 54 per cent of respondents list their lack of sleep as the main reason why they struggle to concentrate in work.

According to the findings, 25 per cent of individuals say they cannot nod off, as they are worrying about work-related stress.

Commenting on the results, Stevie Williams from the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, –which provides a range of treatment of patients with sleep disorders - stated: "It's a vicious circle, although adults may fret about their job and have financial worries they cannot afford to sacrifice their sleep quota."
