Demand for commercial vehicles is showing signs of growth, according to new research, something that those businesses with van insurance may be interested to note.

Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveals 20,139 new vans were registered over the course of last month, some 15.7 per cent above that seen during the same period in 2009.

Meanwhile, 2,901 trucks were registered in June. And while this figure is 5.1 per cent above those recorded the same time than 12 months previously, for the year to date registrations are down 16 per cent.

"Van registrations are moving forward with another month of positive growth, but demand for trucks continues to lag behind the recovery," Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, states.

He adds that road transport operators - which could include those in possession of van insurance - "need to see the economic recovery continuing" so that they can access finance with which to purchase new vehicles.

In May, Mr Everitt claimed that demand for trucks in April was running "well below pre-recession levels", in part due to weak businesses confidence.ADNFCR-873-ID-19878333-ADNFCR
