Next year may see a continuation of the difficulties that business insurance holders faced in 2009, despite recent renewed optimism about the UK economy, it has been claimed.

According to the NFEA - the national enterprise network, pre-general election caution is affecting investment and other business decisions.

"I do have concerns about next year, because confidence needs to be maintained and needs to be translated into real economic performance," said chief executive of the group George Derbyshire.

He added that there are likely to be large cuts in expenditure whoever wins the election next year and this may affect the overall economy, particularly as in certain parts of the country, the private sector has a much smaller presence than the public sector.

Lloyds TSB's Business in Britain survey, published earlier this week, showed that UK business insurance holders are now more confident than at any point in the past two years and are hopeful of an improvement in their fortunes during 2010.
