Workers 'need protecting against stress'

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has reminded business insurance holders to protect their workers from stress.

IOSH president Nattasha Freeman revealed that a recent YouGov survey discovered that 44 per cent of employees claim to be feeling under more pressure since the start of the recession.

Ms Freeman suggested that workers are being put under increasing levels of stress due to factors such as fears over their job security, tightening of salaries and the rising cost of living.

In addition, the expert noted that stressed staff can often be forced out of the workplace by the problem and said business insurance customers should be aware of this.

She continued: "Being out of work is not good for your health, so we need to encourage employers to do more to prevent stress from striking in the first place."

Recently, Business Link advisor Alexandra Shoobert reminded business insurance holders that they have a legal responsibility to safeguard their workers against the impact of stress.ADNFCR-873-ID-19230072-ADNFCR
