Welsh pub closed after food poisoning outbreak

A popular family pub in Cardiff has been closed after 90 staff and customers were taken ill.

The Ffynnon Wen pub in Thornhill is currently being investigated by Cardiff Council's Public Protection Division and laboratory analysis of faecal specimens has confirmed the presence of norovirus, a common cause of gastroenteritis.

Symptoms of the food-borne illness suffered by customers include diarrhoea and projectile vomiting.

A Cardiff council spokeswoman confirmed the outbreak of the illness, saying: "An outbreak control team has been convened and the premises are closed while control measures are implemented and other refurbishment works are carried out," reports the South Wales Echo.

Marston's Inns and Taverns operations director Pete Dalzell said: "As soon as we identified that there was an issue affecting both customers and staff, we took immediate voluntary action and closed the pub for a thorough investigation."
