There is only funding left for 82,000 vehicles under the car scrappage scheme, motor trade insurance customers have been told.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson said that the scheme is entering its final stages, with quota orders now being allocated to manufacturers.
According to Lord Mandelson, the take-up has been "very pleasing" throughout the scheme's duration and he confident that there will be a smooth end to the initiative, but advised people to place their order with motor trade insurance holders sooner rather than later.
"Industry figures have reflected the success the scheme has already had, boosting both car sales over the past few months and maintaining jobs in car production. We expect the impact of the scheme to continue to be felt into 2010," he said.
Meanwhile, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed that motor trade insurance holders have seen 284,479 new car registrations attributed to the scrappage scheme since its start last year.
