Business insurance holders should ensure that they are protecting their employees during the ongoing heatwave, it has been suggested.
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) called upon business insurance customers to introduce measures such as a relaxed dress code to avoid their workers suffering in the hot weather.
According to the group, the best way for staff to keep cool and be able to perform their job to a good standard is to be able to wear more casual clothing when at their desks.
However, the TUC pointed out that some business insurance holders may find it inappropriate to relax dress codes if workers deal directly with the public or have to attend external meetings.
In these instances, the organisation recommended offices are stocked with fans and air conditioning, while employees should have easy access to cold drinks.
Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, commented: "We'd like British bosses to think seriously this week about how they can make their workplaces cooler and their staff less overheated."
In other news, the Institute For Employment Studies said that companies need to adopt a common-sense attitude to the heatwave and avoid sacrificing efficiency in order to maintain smart dress codes.
