Business professionals should document as much as possible in order to lessen the impact of any claims made against them, it has been suggested.

In particular reference to those who sell their knowledge, such as business and financial advisers, businesses should be clear about the services they provide, according to senior manager at Business Link London Denis Palmer.

The aforementioned type of business would find professional indemnity insurance beneficial, he added.

Mr Palmer said: "Document absolutely everything. Literally get everything in writing.

"If you're providing a service, make it very clear in writing what the limitation of what you are providing is. So you're setting the expectation of the client at the earliest possible stage."
