Commercial property insurance holders 'should go green' for housing

Commercial property insurance holders may be interested to know that the government strongly supports green housing projects.

A spokesman for Communities and Local Government said such schemes would help with the overall aim of reducing carbon emissions.

He added: "Buildings account for almost half of the UK's carbon emissions and it is clear we have to reduce these as part of our action on climate change."

The expert stated that homes are now 40 per cent more efficient than they were in 2002 and the government is already putting measures in place to ensure that the "red tape" currently in the planning system will be cut.

A recent study on sustainable building, conducted by the Prince's Foundation, found that making a few small changes in construction materials could have a big effect - with local jobs and regional industry benefiting from the decision to use resources that are produced in the area.
