A risk expert has suggested that the annual office Christmas party presents the biggest avoidable risk to many companies.
Writing in SecurityPark.net, David Honour confirmed that many risk-aware companies often do not conduct any form of risk assessment for their staff 'do'.
He highlights that litigation can be a significant risk even if an event takes place away from company premises and outside working hours.
If an employee is injured or abused then the company can still be liable despite the changed environment, Mr Honour indicates.
Another area outlined as a potential risk category includes premises damage with office complexes increasingly vulnerable to damage during parties.
Employee relations is suggested to be the "highest risk area" as it is essential for the smooth running of the company and Mr Honour stresses that the office party is a "minefield" when it comes to office relationships.
Meanwhile, the BBC has reported that Samaritans is gearing up for an increased number of calls over the Christmas party season, with the charity asserting that the festive period can be an "emotionally challenging period" for many.
